“… somewhere in my heart I’m always dancing with you in the summer rain”

~Belinda Carlisle

Uploaded on You Tube by

Summer wasn’t always my favorite season, but with each year passing by I love it more and more. I’m not sure that  I have the right words to describe what exactly I love about summer, I just know that I feel absolutely in peace with myself. The sun, the smell of the sea, the colors of painted toe nails and the sounds of late night giggles … everything is appealing and beautiful. Even the rain has its charm …  Summer is the season of love and passion, romance and dancing under the stars and being a ridiculously romantic person, it’s the time of the year when I see life through the eyes of dreams and flames. What made me love summer that much? The fact that you could never feel cold, even if you’re all alone. And I know there isn’t a place on Earth with 365 days of summer/ literally or metaphorically/, there is always a cloud or a drop of rain to take the sunshine away, but then exactly the change of the seasons is what makes me wait impatiently for every next summer to come.

– Word –

Pearls have been valued as gemstones for many centuries, and because of this, the word pearl has become a metaphor for something very rare, fine, admirable, and valuable. Summer to me is something admirable, like a beautiful pearl!

– Quote-

“These violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die, like fire and powder which, as they kiss, consume” — William Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet)

Yes, this quote has nothing to do with summer you’d say, but to me summer is equal to great love and passion, and if every summer has an end, so does every violently, strong love too.

Summer rain

by Blaga Todorova

on my way home
as twilight touched the sky,
rain suddenly came, searching for
fresh air and the velvet of exposed skin

fine drops drawing summer in hearts,
smelled the wind and disappeared
leaves and branches dancing,
laughing at my efforts to stay dry

my purple umbrella, guest of honor here
soaking wet clothes ready to travel
thunder and lightning kissing the clear skies,
clouds invasion, but does it matter

eyes, hands, looking, slipping,
rainbows driving paper cars,
sending every green shadow away,
while our feet share a puddle.

“Shogun” by James Clavell

In the summer before first year in University when I was supposed to solve math equations and prepare myself for the pre-university math course, I was reading “Shogun”, three times. When my mom found out … it wasn’t a very pleasant moment, but you know, to me it was worth / smiles/. If you haven’t read the book you should, not only the story is engaging but it’s a little encyclopedia on Japanese culture through the eyes of an English sailor.

– Movie-

“Dirty dancing” – Spending the summer in a holiday camp with her family, Frances (‘Baby’) falls in love with the camp’s dancing teacher… and who wouldn’t want to have such a summer …

– Song –

“Summer rain”- Belinda Carlisle

I know this song didn’t have a big success in the music charts and some people consider it a silly song, but I have special memories connected to it, so it doesn’t matter how many times I’ll listen to it, it will still have the same wonderful sound and rhythm. It was the summer of 2002, my first summer in Greece. My first vacation in Santorini and the first time I met summer boy …

– Animal –

Dolphins – they speak of freedom and blue dreams, waves and happy games …

– Flower –

Jasmine, Lilies

– Town –

Santorini, Greece or Nessebar, Bulgaria

The best summer holidays I’ve had were at these two places. Santorini reminds me of love and happiness, Nessebar reminds me of family vacations when I was living in Bulgaria.

– Food –

Spinach and rocket Parmesan salad

60 g parmesan cheese
100 g baby rocket leaves
100 g baby spinach leaves
80 g semi-dried tomatoes,
halved lengthways
40 g raisins
40 g (¼ cup) pine nuts, toasted
60 ml (¼ cup) balsamic vinegar
60 ml (¼ cup) extra virgin olive oil

Using vegetable peeler, shave cheese into wide, long pieces. Combine rocket and spinach with tomato and nuts in large bowl; add cheese, drizzle with combined vinegar and oil, toss gently. I’m not a vegetarian, but I don’t eat much meat, but for meat lovers, you can add grilled bacon.

Evanescence of the summer

by Blaga Todorova

It’s a dream the evanescence of this summer,
I refuse to let go off the sky so perfectly clear.
Blue silence engraves on a lost shadow, walking
on some lonely beach, bones wrapped in suntanned skin.

I glimpse the lights around, the whispers across the sea,
ready for the morning chill to teach me,
how to survive the dead of summer,
how to welcome the snow, tasting like grated cotton.

I look at the waves, but not for long,
I don’t like the “plain” order and “must” rules.
My eyes would rather battle with the twilight,
keeping the warmth left on the long road of shining.

Day and night will become one,
the rain on the streets will reveal the elixir-cure
for the chaos coming in my heart,
because this great season has to finish.

I store every sign, reminding me that
after all you were here,
that I met you, had you, loved you,
even only moments before the end.

I keep my new passion away
from unreasonable fears and I will feel alive
until the next summer decides to appear,
thinking of the last kiss, followed by one salty tear.
