To a stranger- letter 5

”They did not speak, they did not bow, they were not acquainted; they saw each other; and, like the stars in the sky separated by millions of leagues, they lived by gazing upon each other.” ― Victor Hugo

It was one of the days without public transport, I had to walk on my way back home from the coffee morning with a friend. It was unusually warm day for this time of the year, despite the cloudy skies, I had my camera with me and the walking was pleasant. Instead of taking the shortcut to my neighborhood, I decided to wander a little and I found myself standing in front of Kallimarmaro stadium/ Greek: Καλλιμάρμαρο, meaning the “beautifully marbled”- the athletic stadium in Athens that hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896/. And there he was, dressed in black, with style and male elegance, holding one of those fancy cameras I’d like to have too. He seemed so absorbed in exploring the stadium, carefully choosing what to photograph and I was absorbed by the invisible, yet, so bright, positive energy that surrounded him. The moment he turned around and walked away from the fence of the stadium, the only thing I remember from that moment is his blue, happy eyes. I didn’t find the courage to try and talk to him, I stayed watching him for a little while and then I left.

Dear, blue-eyed stranger, if you ever see this post, know that your eyes made you the most perfect stranger I’ve ever seen. Shame they will remain only a sapphire memory, the brightest memory ever  …

And you, dire soul in broken, sunrise flames,
between white-rock stairs and swan-feathered winds,
you pace over the death of glory and névé,
and savour the warmth in the eyes of a stranger,
holding the last rays of the Olympian lights
and desires, and bitter taste of kismet,
and the screams of the miles and the time difference.

Athens today- the new normal …

“If you’re listening to this, congratulations! You survived Doomsday. I’d like to apologize straightaway for any inconvenience the end of the world may have caused you. The earthquakes, rebellions, riots, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, and of course the giant snake who swallowed the sun—I’m afraid most of that was our fault…” ~ Rick Riordan, The Serpent’s Shadow

The following it seems to be the new normal day in Athens … I’m not rejecting the right to anyone to complain, demonstrate, express pain and dismay, but I’m kind of fed up, for the simple reason that none of those demonstrations can change anything when it comes to the situation in the country, they just change the life of people like me, turning it into an unpleasant cascade of events, stopping the normal course of the day …

People …

More people …

Even more, coming out of every corner and street …

And flags …

And drums … of course!

Streets like Akademias absolutely empty …

And Greek flags everywhere …

… and thank God for the dear Police

… and for the rubbish, everywhere!!!

`

… because that’s all left on the end! Just rubbish! But, looking at the brighter side of life, at least I had a coffee in my favorite coffee shop, feeling protected more than ever, because the Police had coffee there too :) Have a great day/ night everyone!

`

The coffee of the day is pretty much French …

Summer dreams

“Oh, the summer night has a smile of light and she sits on a sapphire throne.”

 Summer dreams

My heart is made of scintillating summer,
warmth and breeze in my raven curls.
I wish for the taste of sweet immortality,
laughter and pearls on my tanned skin.

It’s summer, dazzling riot time and I smile,
how intensely hued is life now. I drift in dreams,
I am happy with the skies, turquoise butterflies,
a sip of wine and a kiss on my summer lips.

Summer girl is going to have a short blogging break to enjoy the colors of the summer around!

I’ll be back soon!

Love& Peace …
