Shush

Shush

I could see the smile hiding on your face.
I could hear the sigh ready to abandon your lips.
I could feel the urge to say the words out loud.
I know you want to declare, to mark, to announce, I know.

But shush!

Don’t tell anyone I let you hold my hand.
Don’t reveal the secret of the temptation we shared.
Don’t display our vulnerable hearts in the bright sunshine.
Don’t, not yet.

Just shush!

Hold the heaven we found for you and I,
let us taste it before the eyes open and see the gray.
Keep the comfort, the hunger that we fed with beauty,
let us breathe it, before the outside world stains it with
ordinariness, with poison of the everyday routine.

Shush, you have to!

Tell me some more stories about magic,
be my “always” even for a bit, even just for today.
Tomorrow we can tell the world about us,
but now please just “Shush” and listen to the music that plays,
every time you come near to share a kiss.

I had to run and get my wife to read this. Okay, I walked but she fell in love with this poem just as I did when I read it. Kissing is our thing. Kissing is everything, so to speak. I am writing a post about poetry sometime this month and would love to showcase your poem as well. Of course I will link back to your site and give you credit. Please let me know if it is okay with you. Great poem!

Give the heart time to convince the mind that all does not have to be secret. Shush…. When love creeps in slowly and the flush of excitement builds. I like it.

  8. Olivia Says:

I have fallen in Love with “this moment” and the “magic” it’s creating right about now.. What a silky appeal in this one..
One could frame it up and put up in the Living Room to know how beautiful the world is just about today..
There’s a Bliss in totality to read this. I feel enchanted. I read it beyond Love.. I see it for most of the aspects we ignore- “Kiss” or Live is how I read it there!! :)
I am basking in it’s warmth “right now..” Well one My Blaga girl.. xoxox

    • Broken Sparkles Says:

I wrote this one just seeing the picture attached to it! It was one of these moments where words just came out of nowhere and one after another! It’s one of my favorite so I thank you very much for liking it and commenting with such a love in your tone! Thanks a lot Olivia!

Therein lies the magic of your poem…that stanza shines best of all.

  14. Uncle Tree Says:

    “My lips are sealed.”
Ha-ha! Had to say it. :)

    This sounds like an affair.
    What’s holding her back?
    Ah…a mystery. Well told,
    and now? Well — said.

Nice to meet you! Peace, UT

    • Broken Sparkles Says:

Pleasure to have you over “funny UT” :)! No, is not an affair! It’s this first moment when you fall in love and when you feel so great and flying from happiness that you don’t want to share it with anyone, but just keep it all to yourself, or at least this is how I feel when in love :)!

  15. Panda Wolf Says:

Every time I read “shush”, I felt like someone was really telling me to be quiet. Good job.

If you’re interested here’s my entry: Panda Wolf – Hey Rain, how are you feeling?

  16. Shawn Bird Says:

Makes me wonder why your persona is so secretive. Is s/he just savouring it in the privacy of her head? or is s/he embarrassed by her/his need/connection to the other? does s/he have another relationship to bring closure to before this one can be acknowledged publically? Hmm….

    • Broken Sparkles Says:

Thank you for stopping by Shawn! Your comment left a smile on my face :)! Do you see the picture under the poem? I saw this picture browsing the internet and this is what came after my inspiration, because of the picture, but there is no secrecy here at all! What I meant is to enjoy the moment of falling love, of being intimate with someone ” before the outside world stains it with ordinariness, with poison of the everyday routine” …Isn’t it always those first moments of falling love the greatest in one relationship? Well this is what she wants to keep only for herself, the feeling of sweetness after his first kisses :) Was that a good enough answer?

  17. Jamie Dedes Says:

A fine poem and I really like the end. Good work here. Thanks!

Enjoy Rally and Potluck … Poem on …

:) A secret like this to be kept is the most beautiful thing to do.

    :) Happy rally!

  19. The Reason You Come Says:

How romantic! When we first find love, we want to keep it to ourselves and not let anything external contaminate it. I remember how it was when my fiancé and I fist fell in love. I wanted to keep it just inside me, in my heart, so the magic would remain pure and untouched. :)
